Position Overview

Overton Independent School District is seeking a dedicated and student-focused Secondary English / Reading Language Arts Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year at Overton High School. This position will support English and reading instruction at the secondary level, helping students develop strong literacy, writing, and critical thinking skills that prepare them for success in college, career, and life.

The ideal candidate values collaboration, strong instructional practices, and meaningful student relationships while maintaining high expectations for student learning and engagement.


Instructional Focus

Instruction aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for English Language Arts and Reading.

Emphasis on:

  • Reading comprehension and literary analysis

  • Writing development across multiple genres

  • Vocabulary development and academic language

  • Critical thinking and discussion-based learning

Teachers collaborate closely with instructional staff and campus leadership to support student success and maintain consistent instructional practices.


Qualifications

Required

  • Valid Texas teaching certificate in English Language Arts and Reading (Grades 7–12 or appropriate certification)

  • Ability to teach secondary English / RLA courses

Preferred

  • Experience teaching secondary English or Reading Language Arts

  • Experience supporting diverse learners and differentiated instruction

  • Strong classroom management and instructional planning skills

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and campus leadership

  • Commitment to building positive relationships with students and families


Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, standards-aligned English / RLA instruction

  • Promote reading, writing, and critical thinking through literature and composition

  • Use student performance data to guide instruction and support intervention

  • Collaborate with grade-level teams and instructional staff

  • Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with students and families

  • Support a positive, structured, and engaging learning environment

  • Contribute to the positive culture of the campus and district
